On to Surf Camp!!

So we got up early and had breakfast. Said goodbye to our new friends in Barrington and off we went on our Oz Bus with Gollum our driver. We were given a bit of entertainment to begin with as Gollum did his impressions, which is where he got his name from. The impressions were great and so similar to the real thing - fantastic!!
We drove most of the way to Surf Camp at Cresent Nest, just stopping for lunch. Oh it was so nice to eat something different after BBQ lunches at Barrington. We had fish and chips, delicious!!
We arrived at Surf Camp at about 1.30pm and were welcomed by the typical surfer australian couple Kimbo and Sarah, such lovely people. We got into our rooms and got changed before meeting for our surf lesson. Kim went over the basics first and then we all had to grab our wetsuits which had been sympatheticly named. Mine was Smelly Pussy Cat which wasn't too bad. We got taken down to the beach and all put our wetsuits on and then grabbed our boards.
We walked down onto the beach, which was pretty overcast, and all got in our circles and started practicing jumping up which was fun! After about 10 minutes we went into the sea, wasn't too cold with our wetsuits on. I managed to stand up quite a few times shortly before falling off!! It was hard work though, the board was pretty heavy and we had to continually carry it back in to try and surf again. Well eventually I had a horrible fall under a big wave and then was pushed down again by another one and so I kinda had enough. I surfed for a couple of hours and it was fun but I think I would benefit more from a smaller group. A few of us had enough so wandered back to the truck to get changed and so Gollum picked us up.
Had a fantastic BBQ dinner there in the evening with lots of great salad stuff, steak, burger and sausage so that was cool. We had to get into teams of 6 to play Jenga and see who had to wash up, we were the Vaginamites!, well obviously I knocked it down so we had to wash up. Although with 6 of us it was easy and quick.
Sat by the camp fire that evening chatting, we did have to keep coming in briefly while it rained!!
The next day a few of us didn't fancy surfing again, plus our arms were killing us. So after an early but fantastic breakfast of porridge and fruit Kelly, Tash, Dan, Chinese Girls, German group, Gollum and I went for a walk along the beach, round the headland and through a bit of rainforest until we got back to the beach. It was a really nice walk and obviously it was raining so we all got a little damp. Gollum gave us interesting facts on the way round as well which was good. We left surf camp around 11am to travel to Bryon Bay.

Hi Dawn - still enjoying reading your blog - keep it up. Surfing sounds like hard work and I can't really see myself in a wet suit! However there was a bit of LOL when we read your wetsuit's name!
we're still swooning from high temps here in Scotland although it's a bit muggy today.
Lots of Love,
L & G
