Sydney - since 4th July 2006

So Kelly arrived around 11.30pm on the 3rd which was good. We chatted for a while and went to bed about 12.30.
We got up at 8.30am packed everything and had breakfast. We checked out just before 10am and walked down to the new hostel.
We got into our room which was actually a 10 bed dorm and it was slightly smelly, several people still in bed. There were also clothes all over the place so just like a girls room!!! Well we just made our beds and I stuck my backpack underneath while Kelly unpacked everything and put it into a little cupboard...
Kelly then booked onto Oz Experience. We wandered through Chinatown and had some lunch in a Chinese, shocker!!, restaurant. They had some meal deal thing on. It was ok but not like home chinese food.
I then took Kelly to the Opera House and Botanic Gardens etc to show her around a bit.
Actually went out to a pub which was ok. We had a few Coronas each but they were a bit expensive so we then bought this jug of Tooheys (sp?) because that was cheap. There was a magician going round who was quite impressive although I do not trust magicians!! They mess with your mind.
The music was ok and a band started to play a bit later on. All in all it was a pretty good night. Got a bit tipsy and even had a drunken Macdonalds at 1am....
We got up at about 10am on the 5th so a bit of a late one for me. Didn't even have breakfast til 11.30am. We did go to check out a 6 bed dorm this morning as we might swap but it looked scank so guessed we may as well stay where we are.
We wandered over to the Chinese Gardens to look around plus it said you could dress up and prance about taking pictures of yourselves..... Well we could've for more money but we didn't want to spend anymore so we just looked round. They were lovely gardens and we were there for a little while which was nice.
We pretty much just wandered around most of the day and looked round some shops.
We decided to cook dinner in the hostel. Well we tried to cook it....!! None of the hobs seemed to get hot enough. I complained to the guy on reception but he really wasn't much help with it!! Eventually we had to wait for this group of Korean people to finish cooking their stuff because they appeared to be using the only hob that actually worked!!! So in the end it took about an hour and a half to make mince, potatoes with salad! It was good once it was done but I was not pleased since the whole point you stay in hostels is to be able to save money on food by cooking your own, won't be cooking here again which is annoying.
We did also try out the TV lounge but they had a load of crap on and smoking is also ok which I don't like so we ended up sitting upstairs chatting.
So yesterday we got up early at 7am, got ready and had breakfast. We left the hostel around 7.45 to go to Central Station. We bought our tickets to Katoomba (Blus Mountains) and jumped on the train.
The train left around 8.30am and took about 2 hours to get there. Once we arrived we went into this information thing and a lady sold us this bus ticket (big mistake as we didn't really use it!!).
After Kelly had purchased a fleese and wooly hat we jumped on a bus to stop 10.
We saw cascades and then walked through the bush to get on the Skyrail. Well it wasn't very impressive as it was over so quickly, it was basically a compartment on cables that went across the valley. We did see the three sisters and the blue mountains are beautiful.
We got off the skyrail and walked towards Echo Point where we had lunch, after wandering around a bit. very tasty it was too. I had Homemade Chicken and Mushroom pie with chips and salad, very impressed!!
We then started following this path to The Three Sisters walk and got onto the three sisters which wasn't really that amazing!! We followed everyone else and started walking down these stairs and they went on forever into the valley below.... Eventually we stubbled to the bottom, a little tired to say the least. I did find out it was the giant staircase with 1000 stairs!! Anyway we wandered through the bush for quite a while and that was lovely, we passed lots of waterfalls and cascades which was nice. We then started heading back up so more steps. Well I assume there were just as many because we were knackered!!!! We walked for 2-3 hours through the bush and up/down the stairs which was good. I really enjoyed it and only wish we would've thought and spent longer there. We had a hot chocolate and a cake and caught the 5.25 train back to Sydney.
When we got back we had a bit of a wash and went onto the net. Popped into a 7 Eleven to get a sandwiche and then went off to the cinema to watch Johnny Depp in Pirates. I quite enjoyed the film as it was quite funny but you can tell its just an inbetween film. Got back at 11ish and then went to bed, I think.
So today we got up around 8ish and showered. Left the hostel, had breakfast and made our way to Circular Quay where we caught a bus to Coogee Beach. We got there and it is such a sweet beach. At least the sun was shining today and it felt warmish.
We walked round the cliffs from Coogee to Bondi, passing Bronte on the way. I really enjoyed this walk, took us a couple of hours maybe. The cliffs were stunning and the beaches all nice and clean. Bondi is a bigger beach and has a real sea-side feel to the place. Its nice to just sit and watch the surfers, when they eventually get a wave. The waves are quite stunning also. We got back to the hostel around 5pm.
We left the hostel around 7pm and walked down to Circular Quay to catch the ferry to Luna Park. We just missed the 7.30, due to the stupid guy that sold us the ticket!!, so waited and got on the 8pm. We wandered round and looked at the rides. Obviously we didn't actually go on any because we'd have to pay. It is basically a fun fair over the harbour. I had some nachos from there and then we both got some fairy (candy) floss so now feel a little ill but its my own fault.
We jumped on a ferry at 9.20 and made our way back - real party animals eh!!!
So probably just gonna chat for a bit and then sleep...very tired after all our walking!
Well I hope everyone has been keeping busy and having fun xxx

feels kinda weird to be work when you get round to it Dawnie... I feel like I've just kinda moved to a new city and got on with life really! Not been doing much sightseeing this week in Melbourne... jsut going to work, coming home, watching TV, having dinner and going to sleep!

It's a little strange... but as of Wednesday I'll have more pennies/dollars in my account so that'll be good!!

Sounds like you're having fun!

Em xxx
